I am a doctoral student in History at the University of Chicago, where I am completing a dissertation on state formation and governmental finance in early-modern China and England.

My work has been supported externally by the Economic History Association and the American Council of Learned Societies, and internally by CISSR, the CEAS, and the Nicholson Center. I have been a visiting fellow at the National Central, Huntington and Beinecke Libraries.

Before coming to Chicago I studied History, East Asian Languages and Literatures, and Classics at Yale.
